Background

Image Data Manager in the SMARTIS (Systematic Management, Archiving and Reviewing Trial Imaging Services) group, part of Edinburgh Imaging.

  • Responsible for managing the imaging (from collection, to archiving and QA'ing and preparing scans to be reviewed) for several national and international clinical trials/studies, including the largely known IST-3 trial (3rd International Stroke Trial) which run from 2000-2013 and randomised 3035 patients from 156 hospitals in 12 countries with the aim to assess the benefits and harms of intravenous thrombolysis with the clot-busting drug alteplase within 6 h of acute ischaemic stroke.
  • Contributing team member in the creation of the SMARTIS group.
  • Responsible for highlighting the challenges an image manager faces in maintaining high quality imaging data whilst collecting scans from a large number of clinical sites over the duration of a clinical trial, by presenting data to ESC in London (2013).
  • Contributing team member in image analysis for long term studies such as the Lothian Birth Cohorts and Mild Stroke Study.
