Strategic Planning is a small high-impact team which provides advice and intelligence to enable senior staff to take evidence-based decisions on matters of strategic importance. I am part of the Strategic Planning Business Intelligence team, which aims to develop business intelligence at the University which is in the best interests of the organisation as a whole, while maintaining an environment which allows local innovation and development to thrive.

I am interested in new and innovative uses of data and intelligence to support students and researchers at the University. I am curious by nature and greatly enjoy collaborating and learning from colleagues in very different areas, exploring new tools, pockets of innovation and sources of intelligence to assess what they could deliver for our University. Previous roles at the University have included establishing a Power BI based business intelligence service for Edinburgh Research Office, and advanced modelling and analytics around research forecasting and protected characteristic trends.

I also have an interest in practical data ethics. I set-up and supported a two-year working group on Responsible Research Metrics (2019-21) and supported the delivery of a University statement on responsible research metrics.

I am a University of Edinburgh IfA graduate in astronomy. Data wrangling and analysis remains much the same whether counting stars, galaxies or students!
