Background

My professional collaboration with The University of Edinburgh dates back to 1997 as a Portuguese language tutor in what was then the Institute of Applied Language Studies and is now Languages for All, Centre for Open Learning.

I started as a Portuguese language tutor in the Department of European Languages and Cultures, The University of Edinburgh,  in 2005, first as a language assistant and  now as a teaching fellow for Portuguese Language.

I am Course Organiser for all the undergraduate Portuguese language courses, from year 1 to Year 4. I am also a Course Organiser for the Portuguese language courses in the Centre for Open Learning.

Qualifications

1984 - Honours degree in History at Universidade do Porto

1994 - MA General Degree at The University of Edinburgh, comprising Linguistics 1 and 2, French 1 and 2, Artificial Inteligence 1 and 2, Sociology 1 and Mathematical Studies.

2021 - Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education, The University of Edinburgh

 

 

Responsibilities & affiliations

Respresenting Camões, Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, in Edinburgh and Scotland

Co-founder of Lusofonias, Oficinas de Português, in Edinburgh

Interpreter for The City of Edinburgh Council

Collaborating in the annual documentary film festival in Iberian and American languages, IBERODOCS, in Scotland.

Member of AULC - Association of University language Communities

Member of TROPO UK - Teachers and Researchers of Portuguese Language in the UK

I am also responsible for the running of the Portuguese Language Centre, representing the Instituto Camões, Portugal. This Centre holds a wide range of literary and audiovisual materials for the study of Portuguese and is also a dedicated library space for students of Portuguese.
