Background

Ian joined the University of Edinburgh's Clinical Educator Programme in 2015 where he works as a Lecturer in Medical Education. His main role is to provide support for participants on the programme in developing their clinical teaching skills. Supporting postgraduate developing clinical educators involves teaching, providing feedback and assessment in medical education. Other university roles involve facilitating sessions for the Edinburgh Summer School in Clinical Education, mentoring on the Edinburgh Teaching Award and occassionally supporting undergraduate students in their development as educators.

Ian has a background is in Emergency Department. This job along with various seconded roles developed his knowledge, skills and an enthusiasm for medical education, resuscitation (ALS) training and simulation based training.

In addition to his nursing qualifications, Ian is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in 2021.
