Professor Reese is Regius Professor of Engineering and Director of Research in the School of Engineering.

He has received the award for his outstanding contribution to the field of engineering both within the UK and internationally and for his commitment to the public engagement of science.

Lecture

As recipient of the Lord Kelvin Medal, Professor Reese will deliver a public lecture on his research in molecular and multiscale engineering.

His current research interests focus on multiscale fluids engineering systems and their role in meeting societal challenges, such as nano-filtering seawater to make it drinkable for water-stressed populations.

The lecture will take place at the Royal Society of Edinburgh in April 2016.

Sciences

The Lord Kelvin Medal is awarded annually for achievement in the physical, engineering and informatics sciences.

It is named after William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin (1824-1907), a mathematical physicist and engineer, and Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow.

Recipients are required to have a Scottish connection and must have achieved distinction nationally and internationally. They should also have made a contribution to society by sharing their research and scholarship.
