Honorary Professor: John Plevris

John (Ioannis) Plevris has been made an Honorary Professor in the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine.

Professor Plevris graduated from Athens University Medical School before training in gastroenterology and hepatology in Edinburgh and Amsterdam.

He was recipient of the William Gibson Fellowship to complete a PhD in Edinburgh and also completed his doctorate of medicine in Athens.

He was a clinical lecturer with the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit in 1999.

He has been an honorary reader since 2010 and consultant since 1999.

An enthusiast of new technologies to benefit patients, he has been in the forefront of introducing new endoscopic techniques in Edinburgh while maintaining a strong interest in translational liver research.

He is an author or co-author of 123 research articles, reviews and book chapters, and a book editor.

He has been a recipient of several European research grants and collaborated with several European centres.

He sits on the editorial board of several journals and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

He is a previous Deputy Director of Communications of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
