The event will take place at Rainy Hall, New College on Saturday 25 November 2023, from 10am to 4pm.
The University is partnering with Their Finest Hour, a nationwide project led by the University of Oxford and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, to collect and preserve the everyday objects and stories from the war.
Preserve your family memories
As these stories are fading fast from living memory, it is vital that they - and the wartime objects that often accompany them - are preserved for future generations. At the Digital Collection Day, attendees will have the opportunity to share their family’s wartime experience which will be recorded via interview, and associated objects, such as diaries, letters, medals, journals and ration books will be photographed. Transcribed interviews and photographs of the objects will be digitised and then uploaded to the Their Finest Hour online archive, which will be free-to-use and launched in June 2024. On display at the event will be memorabilia from the Second World War on loan from Museums & Galleries Edinburgh.

Memories collected can be from anywhere in the world; the team welcomes contributions from everywhere and from people of all backgrounds, in order to increase the diversity of Second World War history.
