New Deputy Secretary, Students

Lucy Evans has been appointed as the University’s Deputy Secretary, Students, following a rigorous and competitive external recruitment process.

Lucy will join the University having spent the past eleven years at the University of Surrey, the last three of which as their Chief Student Officer, covering all aspects of academic administration and student support and driving forward a number of strategic initiatives and projects focused on enhancing the student experience.

She will take up her position in the University Secretary’s Group on 13 June 2022.

Vital role

The Deputy Secretary, Students spans a breadth of the University of Edinburgh and plays a vital role in leading and influencing change across the University to enhance the student experience; leading a range of student-focused services within the University’s Secretary’s Group; and acting as a Deputy to the University Secretary.

I am delighted to be appointed as Deputy Secretary, Students, and look forward to starting the role at the University of Edinburgh shortly.  My focus will be on working with colleagues, staff and students, across the institution to ensure that we are realising the full benefit from the range of work in hand to enhance the student experience

Biography

Lucy is an experienced higher education professional with over twenty years in the sector. 

Having begun her career with the University of Surrey in 2000, she worked at King’s College, London and Surrey Institute of Art and Design, before moving to the University of Reading in 2005.

After six years at Reading she re-joined the University of Surrey, as Faculty Registrar, and then undertaking two Director of Faculty Operations roles and has been their Chief Student Officer since 2019.

Lucy holds a BA (Hons) English Literature from the University of Sussex and a MA (Res) Children’s Literature from the University of Reading.
