Grants of up to £50,000 available for data projects to drive social change

University of Edinburgh staff are invited to submit proposals for small grant funding worth up to £50,000, available through our data-driven innovation (DDI) initiative.

A total of £250,000 has been allocated in funding for staff with ideas for driving social change through the innovative use of data.

The DDI initiative is the University’s key deliverable as a partner in the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, which seeks to accelerate growth by funding innovation, skills and infrastructure related to data.

The grants, which aim to fund ten £10,000 projects, two £25,000 projects and two £50,000 projects, are being made available through the City Deal’s ‘Social Change through Innovation’ theme. 

Successful proposals will:

  • Align with the work at least one of the University’s six DDI hubs - the Bayes Centre, Edinburgh Futures Institute, Usher Institute, Easter Bush Hub, the National Robotarium and Edinburgh International Data Facility.
  • Support delivery of one or more of DDI’s key performance indicators: talent, research, adoption, datasets and entrepreneurship.
