Christmas closure dates: 2020 and 2021
Christmas closure dates for 2020 and 2021 have been confirmed.
Generally, University buildings close for this period and staff are required to take leave, unless the Head of School or Professional Services has made alternative arrangements. Service providers covering this period publish their opening times separately.
2020
For the 2020 festive period, the University will close at 5pm on 18 December 2020, and reopen at 9am on 5 January 2021.
Respite days
To help staff have a proper break over Christmas, the Principal and Leadership team have decided to extent the period that the University will close this year. This means that the following days will be "respite days" and they will not ,and should not be, recorded in People and Money and any staff with leave already booked on those days should cancel it and take the leave at another time. The "respite days" will be:
- Monday 21st December
- Tuesday 22nd December
- Wednesday 23rd December

Public holiday dates
The designated public holidays for all staff will be:
- Thursday 24 December 2020
- Friday 25 December 2020
- Monday 28 December 2020
- Friday 1 January 2021
- Monday 4 January 2021
As two of the Scottish public holiday dates over the festive period fall on a weekend, they have been carried over to the next working day.
Annual leave dates
There are three closure dates during the festive period that will be taken from your annual leave entitlement.
Taken from 2020 annual leave entitlement:
- Tuesday 29th December 2020
- Wednesday 30th December 2020
- Thursday 31st December 2020
Please remember that Friday 3 January 2020 was a closure date, and has already been taken from your 2020 annual leave entitlement.
2021
For the 2021 festive period, the University will close at 5pm on Thursday 23 December 2021, and reopen on 9am on Wednesday 5 January 2022.
Public holiday dates
The designated public holidays for all staff will be:
- Monday 27 December 2021
- Tuesday 28 December 2021
- Monday 3 January 2022
- Tuesday 4 January 2022
