World’s largest sleep out event to tackle homelessness

Students and staff are being encouraged to join a global sleep out to help end homelessness.

‘The World’s Big Sleep Out’ event will take place on Saturday 7th December across 50 cities globally, with the aim to bring together 50,000 people to raise funds for homeless people.

Edinburgh’s event will take place in Princes Street Gardens, following in the footsteps of the successful national sleep out campaign, ‘Sleep in the Park’.

The University is offering free tickets to students and staff who sign up to take part.

Global event

The ‘World’s Big Sleep Out’ campaign is fronted by Josh Littlejohn MBE, founder of ‘Sleep in the Park’ and co-founder of the charity Social Bite, a Scottish based social enterprise supporting efforts to eradicate homelessness in Scotland.

This one-off global event is run in partnership with the Institute for Global Homelessness (IGH), UNICEF USA, Malala Fund and Social Bite.

All proceeds from fundraised donations will go towards helping homeless people, with 50% of the funds going towards local initiatives and 50% going to charities who support some of the 70.1 million people displaced globally.
