Trio of awards mark excellence in education
Edinburgh has been recognised with three awards for excellence in higher education.
The University was presented with prestigious Herald Higher Education Awards for supporting refugees and asylum seekers, promoting student wellbeing, and its innovative use of technology.
The annual awards celebrate outstanding higher education institutions in Scotland and aim to build future excellence by sharing good practice.
Top prizes
The Supporting Student Wellbeing Award was presented for the University’s work with the Foundation for Positive Mental Health to provide free access to the Feeling Good app, an evidence-based self-help programme.
A project that has enabled students, staff and members of the local community to become active citizens in the digital world was recognised with the Innovative Use of Technology Award. The work, carried out in partnership with Wikimedia UK, has supported learning and teaching across the institution for more than three years.
The University’s Global Community team was recognised for the support it provides to refugees and asylum seekers with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion award.
Highly commended
As well as the three awards, the University also received commendations in two categories.
The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies’ All4Paws programme was recognised in the Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community Award category. The scheme provides free treatment and advice for pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh.
The University and Edinburgh University Students’ Association were also commended for the #NoExcuse campaign, which aims to tackle sexual harassment and violence on campus.
