Staff recognised in Queen’s birthday honours

Four members of University staff have been recognised in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

Professor Hector MacQueen, Professor of Private Law, has received a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to legal scholarship.

Professor MacQueen has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh since 1995 and was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2006.

Psychology

Vice-Principal Professor Dorothy Miell, Head of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).  

Professor Miell has served as President of the British Psychological Society and is a former Chair of its Psychology Education Board as well as a Trustee.

Her honour is for services to Higher Education and Psychology.

Public health

Professor Amanda Amos, Professor of Health Promotion, has received an OBE for services to Public Health.

Professor Amos’ main area of research is smoking and tobacco control. She is a member of the European Board of the International Network of Women Against Tobacco and consultant to NHS Lothian on smoking prevention.

Science

Dr Jane Haley, Neuroscience Scientific Co-ordinator, receives an MBE for services to Scientific Engagement and Education.

Dr Haley was awarded the British Neuroscience Association (BNA) award for the Public Understanding of Neuroscience.

The awards have been given as part of celebrations marking HRH the Queen's 93rd birthday.
