Apprentice named PeoplePlus Apprentice of the Year

An apprentice has been recognised for his work in the Finance department in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Lewis Machin was recently named Apprentice of the Year by PeoplePlus, an adult skills and training provider supporting over 14,000 apprenticeships across the UK.

He was recognised for having shown dedication to the apprenticeship programme from the outset, and an eagerness to progress and take on extra responsibilities.

Lewis was one of just six apprentices in Scotland to be recognised by PeoplePlus as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2019.

Finance training

Lewis joined the Finance and Planning team in the College at the start of 2018 as an Administration Assistant.

He is completing an Accounting (AAT) Level 2 qualification which is mainly self-study but support is provided by a tutor from the training provider.

I have found the modern apprenticeship programme at the University to be a brilliant opportunity. It is extremely beneficial to be working in a finance role while studying AAT, as I can apply the knowledge I have gained in my day-to-day work.

Lewis Machin

Lewis has been a fantastic addition to the Finance and Planning team and is a valued member of the team. It has been great to see him progress and develop over the past year, exceeding our expectations.
