Rainbow lanyards symbolise support for diversity
The University has launched official rainbow lanyards for staff and students to show their support for diversity and inclusion at Edinburgh.
The introduction of rainbow lanyards offers a visible symbol to all current and potential staff, students, alumni and visitors that the University embraces diversity and is inclusive of all.
The University’s Staff Pride Network has taken inspiration from the rainbow flag of the LGBT+ community and produced two lanyard designs: one with 'University of Edinburgh' and the other with 'University of Edinburgh LGBT+ Ally'.
Over the next few weeks, the lanyards will be made available to members of the Staff Pride Network, the student network PrideSoc and any other interested staff member.
Students and staff are encouraged to post a selfie with the new lanyard on social media using the hashtag #Proud.
The University is delighted to continue to support its LGBT+ community and recognise all of the work of the staff and student networks. I am proud to wear the UoE LGBT+ lanyard and to once again be included in the raising of the rainbow flag above Old College, in celebration and recognition of LGBT+ History Month 2018.
The Staff Pride Network is an inclusive network that serves as a resource for the rich diversity of LGBT+ identified employees and their allies across the institution.

Visibility is key to progress and University of Edinburgh Rainbow Lanyards will show we are here, we are proud of who we are and we have support in our workplace. That is exciting to me and I hope to you too.
