Profit rise for University Press

Rising sales at Edinburgh University Press have led to a six per cent revenue rise on the previous year.

A successful 12 months saw profits rise to £144,000, from £99,000.

Digital sales grew 16 per cent to £520,000, while print sales rose only slightly at £1.87m. Journal revenues were up 15 per cent and rights and permissions revenues up 14 per cent.

Timothy Wright University Press Chief Executive described it as a solid set of results in a market for scholarly publishers that continues to change and challenge.

Leadership change

As our business continues to grow and the challenges of selling and marketing scholarly works become greater it makes sense to create two distinct teams who will work closely together to deliver this growth.

Edinburgh University Press also welcomes a change in leadership with the appointment of Mark Allin as Non-executive Director. Mr Allin was most recently President and CEO of John Wiley, based in New Jersey.

Charlotte Mason has been appointed the new Head of Sales, coming to the University from the publishing arm of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. This is a new role, resulting from a restructure of the sales and marketing team. 


The Press is an exciting place of growth and as the world of academic publishing continues to evolve, I am very much looking forward to working with the EUP team to take it to the next level.

Anna Glazier, formerly head of sales and marketing, will now lead the marketing team only, while Adela Rauchova has been promoted to commissioning editor in Islamic and Middle East Studies.
