Friendly welcome awaits new students
A host of events have been lined up to welcome incoming students into the University community.
Welcome Week takes place from 10 –14 September and will help new students make the most of their time at Edinburgh.
Sea of Colour
A colourful ice breaker, inspired by the hit 1990s sitcom Friends is taking place at Old College on Thursday 13 September.
Students are invited to the Quad to pick up a brightly coloured brolly and recreate the opening title sequence from the popular show.
Staff and members of the public are also invited to the event to help celebrate new friendships and fill the Quad with movement and colour.
The Principal, Professor Peter Mathieson, will host a Welcome Ceremony on Monday at McEwen Hall for new students.
The ceremony will give incoming students the opportunity to be welcomed by senior members of the University and to be inspired as current students are celebrated in the Sir William Darling Memorial Prizes.
The Students’ Association is hosting a number of events, including the annual Fresher’s Expo at Potterrow, with a chance to win prizes and sign up for discounts with local companies. A Sports and Fitness Fair is also taking place at the Pleasance.
Pride Soc are hosting an LGBTQ+ Fair on Friday 14 September at Teviot Row House, with opportunities to get involved in the community, including the LGBTQ+ choir.
Schools from across the University will host Welcome Meetings during the week.
Undergraduate Welcome Meetings are essential for all new first year students. They offer course guidance, opportunities to meet key teaching staff and information about Personal Tutors.
Postgraduate Welcome Meetings offer a chance for incoming Masters and PhD students to find out more about the University’s supervision system and receive guidance on starting University life.
The University of Edinburgh Events app is an easy way for new students to find out more about what is going on around campus.
Students are encouraged to use the hashtag #EdWelcome to share their Welcome Week experiences online .
