Volunteer to help send vital kit to Africa

Volunteers are being sought to help prepare a shipment of refurbished computers, tools and medical equipment bound for Ghana.

The Turing Trust is sending the shipment of equipment on Saturday 28 January.

Volunteers are needed to help load a container at the charity’s High School Yards premises on the day.

The Turing Trust will be providing hot food and unlimited teas and coffees on the day (and maybe even some beer!) to keep everyone suitably fortified.

Get involved

Work will take place from 10am until 3/4pm (depending on numbers), and organisers are happy for volunteers to come for the full day or part of it.

The location is 57 High School Yards.

Please email events@turingtrust.co.uk if you would like to take part, including your name and availability on the day.

Student enterprise

The Turing Trust was founded by James Turing, who is completing a PhD at the University’s School of Social and Political Science.

The Trust is named in honour of his great-uncle, the celebrated mathematician Alan Turing.

Inspiring endeavour

The charity began as a volunteer project following a visit by James to Ghana in 2009.

The social enterprise now processes more than 1,000 computers every year from premises at the University’s High School Yards.

So far it has installed more than 2,500 computers in rural schools across Ghana, Malawi and Kenya, and helped train more than 15,000 rural students in IT skills.
