Social care robots on show for public event

Staff, students and members of the public are invited to see how robots being developed at Edinburgh could help meet future healthcare challenges.

Researchers from the University’s School of Informatics are hosting an event at which visitors can learn about recent advances in social care robotics.

Attendees will see a demonstration by one of the latest social care robots being developed at the University.

They will also have the opportunity to speak with researchers who are working on the robots.

The free event takes place on Friday 30 June from 3-5.30pm in Inspace at the School of Informatics.

The event has been organised as part of UK Robotics Week 2017, during which the School’s Robust Autonomy and Decisions group is taking part in the Social Care Robot Challenge.

The challenge aims to bring together UK experts in social care robotics from academia and industry to advance knowledge of how robots can be integrated into healthcare services of the future.  

Robotics week

UK Robotics Week 2017 takes place from 24-30 June, and seeks to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers to push the boundaries of robotics.

It is coordinated by the UK-RAS Network funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
