Scholarship scheme aims to expand access

A new scholarship scheme will help the best and brightest students from Scotland, the UK and the wider world benefit from an Edinburgh education.

The O'Shea Global Scholars Initiative will provide a range of scholarships to bring people to the University, in person and virtually, and send Edinburgh students abroad.

Through greater provision of scholarships, enhanced support for students on campus and links with local and global communities, the University aims to positively impact more students than ever before.

The initiative will build a lasting legacy befitting Professor Sir Timothy O’Shea’s work in expanding access to the University during his 15 years as Principal.

Study opportunities

The provision of enhanced undergraduate scholarships will allow the most disadvantaged students in Scotland and the UK to study and thrive on campus at Edinburgh.

Online Masters scholarships will allow promising students from around the world to study with the University without uprooting their lives and leaving their families.

New Masters and PhD scholarships will be provided to attract the best and brightest students from around the world to study on campus, regardless of their financial circumstances.

In addition, travel scholarships will help disadvantaged students study, intern and research abroad, and grow their international networks.

Staff support

Staff can help support a student through an Edinburgh education in a number of ways.
