New staffing appointments at College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine

New staffing appointments have been announced at the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine.

Head of College

Professor Sir John Savill will be stepping down from the role of Vice Principal and Head of College at the end of June 2018, taking on new responsibilities as the Regius Professor of Medical Science full time.

Professor David Argyle will serve as interim Head of College from 1 September 2017 alongside his continuing role as Head of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.

It has been a great privilege to be part of a team that has had so many successes in research, teaching and knowledge exchange; all of us owe a debt of gratitude to colleagues in the wider University who have enabled these achievements and to our many partners and philanthropic supporters.

Dean of Research

Professor Charles ffrench-Constant, formerly Director of the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine and of Edinburgh Neuroscience, will succeed Professor Brian Walker as Dean of Research from July 2017 for four years in the first instance.

Professor Brian Walker has been appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research at Newcastle University.

Chair of Edinburgh Genomics

Professor Bruce Whitelaw will be succeeding Professor Andrew Morris as Chair of Edinburgh Genomics from this summer.

From 1 August 2017, Professor Andrew Morris will take up a new role as the inaugural Director of Health Data Research UK, a new flagship institute for health and biomedical informatics research.
