Fairtrade Fortnight 2017

Help the University celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, and show your support for the farmers and workers in developing countries who grow our food.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2017

This year’s Fairtrade Fortnight takes place between Monday 27 February and Sunday 12 March.

It will showcase events from around Edinburgh’s city-wide community, as well as the University’s own Visions for Change event, 'Human rights abuses in supply chains: what can we do?'

Fairtrade University

We will be celebrating the fair trade achievements of the University, from stocking fairly traded bananas and beverages to promoting slavery-free electronics.

Supply chain issues such as conflict minerals and modern slavery will also be highlighted, following the publication of the University’s Modern Slavery Statement, which was approved in December 2016.

Edinburgh has been a Fairtrade University since 2004, and is active in Edinburgh’s Fairtrade City Group. The University also supported Scotland’s bid to become a Fair Trade Nation, a status awarded in 2013.

Hamper giveaway

The University’s Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability is giving away a fair trade hamper as part of the Fairtrade Foundation’s campaign, ‘put Fairtrade in your break’.

To enter, take a photo of your fair trade break and post it on Twitter (@edsust) or Instagram (@edinburgh.sustainability) using the hashtag #UoEfairtrade.

The giveaway is open to all staff and students at the University.
