University passes charity bake sale record
Students and staff at the University have passed the Guinness World Record for the most cakes sold in eight hours for charity.
They shifted 18,195 baked goods around campus, beating the previous record of 14,534.
Fundraisers made more than £9000 for the University’s Big Leap campaign, which supports good causes in and around Edinburgh.
World record bid
A total of 45 bake sales took place across University sites between 9am and 5pm.
The results are awaiting ratification by Guinness World Records.
Former Great British Bake Off contestant and Edinburgh graduate Glenn Cosby conducted a cake crawl during the attempt, visiting numerous bake sales and helping to sell cakes.
Supporting good causes
Causes that are set to benefit include the Hope Park Counselling Service, the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease and the Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre.
Students and staff have shown great generosity of spirit during this record attempt. Many outstanding charities will benefit from this effort, which has also shined a light on fine causes to be found within the University itself.
