Chair in Continuing Education
The University has appointed Professor David Finkelstein as Chair in Continuing Education.
He will take up the newly created post in January 2015 and will also become Head of the Office of Lifelong Learning.
Professor Finkelstein is currently Dean of the School of Humanities at the University of Dundee.
The five-year role as Head of the Office of Lifelong Learning gives Professor Finkelstein responsibility for shaping and leading the University's lifelong learning strategy.
He will provide academic leadership, and develop and deliver strategic objectives in teaching, research and community engagement.
He will also take up the inaugural Chair of Continuing Education, established to lead the provision of adult and continuing education on campus and develop the offering online.
I am extremely pleased and honoured to take up this new role. While other institutions are cutting back on lifelong learning, it is significant that the University is investing in this area. It is a clear signal of the importance of such activity and my aim is to ensure this aspect of the University’s work expands and flourishes.
At the University of Dundee, Professor Finkelstein has been instrumental in driving positive change, strengthening the School of Humanities’ cross-disciplinary scope, teaching and research initiatives, and collaborative links.
He played a key role in developing the successful £23 million Scottish consortia bid for a five-year AHRC-funded Doctoral Training Partnership and the SFC-funded Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities.
