He will take up the newly created post in January 2015 and will also become Head of the Office of Lifelong Learning.

Professor Finkelstein is currently Dean of the School of Humanities at the University of Dundee.

Shaping strategy

The five-year role as Head of the Office of Lifelong Learning gives Professor Finkelstein responsibility for shaping and leading the University's lifelong learning strategy.

He will provide academic leadership, and develop and deliver strategic objectives in teaching, research and community engagement.

He will also take up the inaugural Chair of Continuing Education, established to lead the provision of adult and continuing education on campus and develop the offering online.

I am extremely pleased and honoured to take up this new role. While other institutions are cutting back on lifelong learning, it is significant that the University is investing in this area. It is a clear signal of the importance of such activity and my aim is to ensure this aspect of the University’s work expands and flourishes.
