Students start summer internships

A number of Edinburgh students will this year be spending their summer gaining valuable workplace skills, thanks to the Careers Service’s Employ.ed on Campus programme.

Now in its second year, the scheme encourages University departments to host a student intern for an eight to twelve week period.

Broad range

This year’s cohort has now begun their internships with a broad range of University teams.

Around 16 University departments, spanning academic units and support services, are hosting Employ.ed interns.

Host opportunities

The internship scheme provides a chance for host departments to:

  • take up projects that might be on hold, or may not otherwise be done
  • introduce new skills to their team
  • understand the student perspective
  • gain a new member of the team
  • gain fresh insights into their business
  • test out the viability of a potential full-time post

Support

The Careers Services actively manages the recruitment process.

It runs induction events for both line managers and interns, and continues to support interns throughout the placement period and beyond.
