The festival, part of National Science & Engineering Week, takes place on 16 and 17 March.

Programme

More than 40 event providers, including University of Edinburgh staff and students, are participating in this year’s festival.

The programme offers a range of science shows, workshops, drop-in sessions, talks and films, with some sessions presented in British Sign Language. All shows will be BSL/English interpreted.

Last year’s event attracted more than 3,500 visitors and won National Science & Engineering Week’s Best Community Event award.

Getting involved

Audrey Cameron, Deaf Studies Tutor at the School of Education, and Lucy McCloughan, e-Health Research Manager with the Centre for Population Health Science, have been heavily involved with the festival’s organisation.

Dr Cameron is the project manager for the Scottish Sensory Centre’s British Sign Language Science Glossary and has played a major role in integrating the project into science engagement in the Lothians.

The School of Chemistry, the Institute of Genetic and Molecular Medicine and the Edinburgh Cancer Research UK Centre will also be staging events at Dunbar SciFest.

Edinburgh festival

University staff will also be hosting a vast range of activities at this year’s Edinburgh International Science Festival.

This event takes place from 23 March to 7 April.

National Science & Engineering Week runs from 15 to 24 March.
