Auto-enrolment into a workplace pension

With effect from 1 March 2013 the University of Edinburgh will be automatically enrolling all employees who meet certain criteria into a workplace pension, if they are not already in one.

This means that if you are between age 22 and state pension age and earn £675 or more per month you will be automatically enrolled into a workplace pension scheme and contributions will be deducted from your March salary.

Further details

If you do not meet the criteria in March you will not be automatically enrolled into a pension scheme but:

  • you can elect to join a scheme in March
  • you can elect to join a scheme at any time in the future
  • you will be auto-enrolled in the future if you meet the criteria.

Every employee will receive a letter shortly telling them how this new legislation will affect them.

If you want to find out more information meantime please visit the pensions website and click on the Auto Enrolment section.
