The UK’s points-based immigration system is broken into five tiers: Tier 4 visas are for students who want to come to the UK for post-16 education.
Immigration changes
The new points-based immigration system, introduced from 2008, has been the biggest change in the UK’s immigration rules for decades.
The new system means an increase in responsibility for organisations, which wish to recruit non-EU staff or students, to engage in a very detailed system of regulation.
Many University staff will be involved in adapting to the new system, for example anyone who writes confirmation of acceptance for studies or checks attendance.
Information for staff
There will be two sessions held to help staff understand some of the issues related to the Tier 4 visa.
The two-hour events will take place on the 4 and 6 July, at the Hugh Robson Building and the Darwin Building respectively.
You can book a place at either event through MyEd.
The International Office also plans to run a programme of information sessions throughout the year to help staff understand and work within the regulations.
