Surgical start-up wins first prize

A start-up company formed by two University of Edinburgh PhD students has landed a £20,000 prize in the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards.

The company, EoSurgical, founded by medical PhD students and trainee surgeons Paul Brennan and Roland Partridge, came first in the competition’s postgraduate category.

Awards successes

EoSurgical designs and manufactures training tools for surgeons to improve their operative skills.

The team beat stiff competition from around 60 university start-ups to win the Santander Universities competition, the latest in a series of successes for the young start-up.

Earlier this year, EoSurgical won the Scottish Institute for Enterprise New Ventures Competition.

It was also awarded second place in the University’s Innovation Cup in June.

Throughout the year the team has also benefited from support from Launch.ed, a free service set up by Edinburgh Research and Innovation.
