New RSE Fellows announced

Eleven University of Edinburgh academics have been made Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).

They join a prestigious fellowship of 1,500 individuals who have each demonstrated significant achievement in a broad range of fields.

The Edinburgh staff members included in the RSE’s 2012 intake are:

  • Professor Polly Arnold, Chair of Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry
  • Professor David Cameron, Clinical Director of the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre
  • Professor Rebecca Cheung, Professor of Nanoelectronics
  • Professor Hilary Critchley, Professor of Reproductive Medicine
  • Professor Heather Cubie, Honorary Professor of Research and Research Management
  • Professor Jane Dawson, Professor of Reformation History
  • Professor John Iredale, Professor of Medicine
  • Professor Simon Kirby, Professor of Language Evolution
  • Professor Loeske Kruuk, Professor of Evolutionary Ecology
  • Professor Gareth Leng, Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences
  • Professor Leonid Libkin, Professor of Foundations of Data Management
  • Professor Lesley Yellowlees, Head of the College of Science & Engineering.

I am pleased to welcome such a talented group of people to the RSE. It is also encouraging that the proportion of female Fellows elected is the highest in the history of the Society in a single year.
