The research centre, which is strategically supported by the BBSRC, has been granted the bronze Athena Swan award.

Positive employment practice

The Athena Swan award scheme recognises and celebrates good employment practice for women working in science, engineering and technology in higher education and research.

The Roslin Institute received the bronze award for its efforts, over and above University policy, to promote gender equality and address particular challenges for women in science.

The Institute was praised for its commitment to training and development, its strong appraisal and induction programme and its local postdoctoral mentoring scheme.

Three-year action plan

As part of the SWAN process, the Institute has developed a three-year action plan to build upon its existing career development initiatives and to continue to address the challenges for women working in science.

The Roslin Institute has been invited to apply for the silver award in 12 months time.
