Exploring Edinburgh research

Information about the University’s research activity can now be accessed via a new online portal.

Scientific research

Named the Edinburgh Research Explorer, the website makes research data captured in PURE publicly available.

Edinburgh Research Explorer is still in its beta phase, but a full launch is planned for summer 2012.

About PURE

PURE is the new research information management system being developed and used by the University to help prepare for the forthcoming Research Excellence Framework.

The PURE project team comprises staff from Governance and Strategic Planning, which are the business owners and project client, Library and Collections and IS Applications Division.

Throughout the past year the team has been working to synchronise and migrate data from corporate and legacy systems into PURE, as well as preparing for the roll-out of the system across the University.

Milestones

The launch of the Edinburgh Research Explorer portal is one of several milestones that the PURE project has achieved, since the system came online in August 2011.

In February this year, the project’s second phase was completed enabling the system to extract funding and project information from eFinancials and link up with the Visitor Registration System to enable visitors to be captured in PURE.

Looking ahead, the project team will develop ways to further integrate with other corporate systems and explore how PURE can be used as a content provider of research information to local web pages.
