Gaelic Language Plan

The University is to launch a Gaelic Language Plan.

The plan will aim to raise the profile of Gaelic in the University and prompt the creation of practical opportunities to use the language.

Bòrd na Gàidhlig

The University’s Gaelic Language Plan will be submitted to Bòrd na Gàidhlig in July.

Bòrd na Gàidhlig, a Scottish Government non-departmental public body responsible for the promotion and development of Gaelic, launched the National Plan for Gaelic in 2007 and is now working on a plan for 2012-17.

The University’s plan will outline the ways in which the National Plan for Gaelic will be implemented at Edinburgh.

Gaelic questionnaire

The University has also launched a Gaelic questionnaire for all staff and students.

It will be open for responses until 6 April 2012.

Questionnaire results will be used to investigate existing Gaelic language competencies and the opportunities for the development of increased acquisition, usage and status of Gaelic within the University.

The questionnaire should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
