Launched this month, the new Switch and Save campaign will be marked by a range of promotional activity around the University.

Publicity includes posters displayed around the estate and free ‘Switch and Save’ cupcakes, which will be provided with teas and coffee bought from EUSA and Accommodation Services catering outlets.

Staff volunteers

A total of around 60 staff members have been recruited as Energy Coordinators to support the campaign.

These volunteers will help the University to deliver the key Switch and Save messages and distribute essential information on energy-related matters to their colleagues.

Achieving goals

The University has adopted a carbon footprint reduction target of 29 per cent by 2020 (2007 base year).

It has since invested heavily in engineering and technical measures, including three combined heat and power plants, to help meet this goal.

The Switch and Save Energy Reduction Campaign was first launched in 2006 to support the University’s commitment to emissions reduction through the power of people.

Estates & Buildings, Accommodation Services and EUSA have jointly developed the second phase of the campaign to generate a collective effort to meet the University’s target.
