Royal holiday: update

Most University libraries are to open as usual for the public holiday on Friday 29 April.

Details of library opening hours are available on the Information Services website.

Public celebration

The UK and Scottish governments declared the date a holiday to celebrate the royal wedding between HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton.

While public holidays are not statutory or contractual entitlements, the University granted the day as a public holiday on this occasion.

Time off granted

No exams are scheduled for the public holiday, but some essential services will remain open and managers will inform staff working in these areas.

Staff required to work will be granted time off in lieu and will in some cases be eligible for overtime pay, in line with the relevant conditions of service.

Employees who do not normally work on a Friday may take pro rata time off in lieu.

Shuttle bus

Staff and students who will be using University service on 29 April should note that the shuttle bus that runs between the Central Area and King's Buildings will not be running.
