New role for April McMahon

Professor April McMahon, the University’s Vice-Principal Planning, Resources & Research Policy, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Aberystwyth University.

Professor McMahon will take up her new post on 1 August 2011.

Career history

An Edinburgh graduate, Professor McMahon taught at the University of Cambridge for 12 years.

She joined the University of Sheffield as Professor of English Language and Linguistics in 2000.

In 2005, she joined the University of Edinburgh as Forbes Professor of English Language and Head of Linguistics and English Language.

She was appointed Head of the College of Humanities and Social Science in 2008 and subsequently took up her current role as Vice-Principal in September 2009.

I wish Professor McMahon every success in her new role and thank her for her excellent contribution and the commitment she has shown during her time with the University of Edinburgh.
