The partnership, entitled the Edinburgh International City of Learning, aims to highlight the international impact of its members and build upon the city’s traditional ‘town and gown’ relationships.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding formalised the alliance at a ceremony in the University’s Playfair Library in Old College.

Shared vision

The Edinburgh International City of Learning partnership aims to extend the existing collaborative relations between its members, particularly in the areas of international education.

It also aims to enhance existing collaborative projects, such as the City of Edinburgh schools’ ‘Get Set for the Games’ project, the Confucius Institute’s ‘Confucius Classroom Project’, and the Meet the Professor initiative, which sees school pupils visit universities.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding represents a joint commitment towards a shared vision. The city of Edinburgh is a magnet for international students, and the time is ripe for a new strategic ‘town and gown’ alliance, which can take the city to a new level of excellence as an international centre of learning.
