Religion reaches out

A University project is to host a one-day conference on the role of pastoral care and counselling within the churches.

New College

The conference will explore the contribution of church and academy to models of counselling and pastoral care in 20th century Scotland, and assess current trends in the field.

It is targeted to a wide public audience including university staff members, as well as representatives from the churches and the healthcare professions.

The conference takes place on Wednesday 10 November at Martin Hall, New College.

Theology and therapy

The AHRC/ESRC-funded Theology and Therapy project is hosting the one-day event.

This project investigates the way in which psychotherapy, Christianity and spirituality have overlapped during the post-war period, between 1945 and 2000.

It is a collaboration between academics from the schools of Divinity and Health in Social Science.

The project’s team of four comprises Professor Liz Bondi from Health in Social Science and Professor David Fergusson, Dr Steven Sutcliffe and Dr Gavin Miller from Divinity.
