New centre appoints Director

Dr Jon Turner has been appointed as the Director of the University’s newly established Institute for Academic Development.

The Institute will support learning and teaching for staff and students.

An academic support service

The new Institute will initially comprise three existing units:

  • the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Assessment
  • Transkills
  • the Study Skills Unit of the Office for Lifelong Learning.

Among its activities will be the continuing professional development and dissemination of best practice in teaching and supervision, promotion of student study skills, and the development of strategies in teaching and assessment.

Working for all Colleges

The Institute will be located within the College of Humanities & Social Science but it will serve staff and students in all three Colleges across the University.

The Institute's staff is expected to relocate to a single site throughout the course of the calendar year.

His knowledge, experience and leadership qualities are widely recognised throughout the higher education sector.
