EC award for HR in research

The University has received international recognition for its excellence in human resource management of researchers.

Scientific research

It has been awarded HR Excellence in Research accreditation from the European Commission.

Edinburgh is among one of the first UK universities to receive this official recognition.

Regular support

The University runs a programme of regular support and activity to help researchers plan and develop their careers.

This includes access to careers advice and resources, training sessions, and mentor provision.

The University’s Code of Practice for the Management of Research Staff outlines principles and policies that are designed to support researcher career development.

This document complements and supports the UK’s HE-sector-backed Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.

Institute for Academic Development

The University’s commitment to providing support for researchers was further enhanced this year by the creation of the Institute for Academic Development.

The institute comprises the Centre for Teaching Learning and Assessment, the Postgraduate Transferable Skills Unit and the Researcher Development Programme.

Our research staff are crucial to the success of the University. We have been working hard to ensure our researchers are supported in developing their skills and careers as well as engaging with cutting-edge research.
