The competition is one of a series of prizes launched to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Edinburgh Journal of Gadda Studies.

Engaging with young minds

The inaugural Junior Gadda Prize is being run in partnership with book retailer Blackwell's.

It is targeted to secondary school pupils who are being encouraged to submit a detective fiction story set in Rome.

Four finalists will be invited to a workshop held at a public event on 19 June at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Scholarly recognition

The Edinburgh Gadda Prize will also reward scholarly work in the field of Italian literature.

The three academic award categories are:

  • The Crolla Amato Gadda Prize to reward the best published scholarly work on Gadda
  • The Gadda First to be given to the best early career scholarly work on Gadda
  • Novecento in Saggio to recognise the best published scholarly work on 20th-century Italian fiction.
