The ranking was awarded by sustainability benchmarking programme Universities that Count (UTC), which assessed 29 participating institutions in its feedback report.

Silver standard

The University’s high ranking earned it a Silver UTC Standard.

Edinburgh’s overall score was above the higher education sector average.

We were recognised for demonstrating ‘outstanding achievement’ in the areas of waste management and recycling and student and staff travel.

We were also recognised for excellence in the areas of climate change and health, safety and wellbeing.

This exceptional result for such a long-established, devolved University reflects well on the engagement by colleagues in the social responsibility and sustainability agenda adopted by Court in February.
