New digital curation head

Kevin Ashley has been appointed as the new Director of the University-based Digital Curation Centre.

Kevin Ashley

Kevin has been Head of Digital Archives at the University of London Computer Centre (ULCC) since 1997.

He will succeed Chris Rusbridge upon his retirement in April.

National resource

The JISC-funded Digital Curation Centre (DCC) is the UK’s leading centre of digital data curation.

It is run jointly by the universities of Bath, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Digital curation involves organising and preserving digital information so that it may be available for future use.

Filing research in this way is increasingly becoming a requirement of successful funding bids.

Widespread support

Kevin will drive the DCC forward during its third phase of development.

Following a new round of funding from JISC, the DCC will make plans to embed good data curation practice across the whole UK higher education sector.

The centre’s expertise will support University of Edinburgh facilities in e-science, e-social science and developments within digital humanities.

A leader in digital archiving

Kevin has contributed widely to the research information community.

He is a member of JISC's Infrastructure and Resources Committee, the Advisory Council for Erpanet, plus several advisory boards for data and archives projects and services.

During his time at ULCC his multidisciplinary group has operated the National Digital Archive of Datasets for the UK National Archives for more than 12 years.
