S&E reaps top award levels

The College of Science & Engineering has attracted record-breaking levels of research funding in what has been a year of uncertainty across the higher education sector.

New figures, published by Edinburgh Research & Innovation, reveal that the College received a record catch of awards worth £113,769,000.

This total is a seven per cent improvement upon last year’s figure, and a five per cent increase upon awards income during the College’s record-breaking year in 2006/07.

Strong application levels

The value of applications made by S&E also exceeded figures for previous years.

Submitting applications with a total portfolio value of £452,746,000, the College broke its 2007/08 record by at least £11 million.

Levels of research application were strong across all three Colleges.

MVM this year submitted 785 applications, slightly surpassing last year’s figure.

While, HSS increased the value of applications it made by 13 per cent year-on-year.

Overall, the University attracted just less than 1,000 awards worth £208,454,000 during 2009/10.

It is good to see that the uncertainty that has been hanging over the sector over the past year has not deflected the unrelenting application activity so evident across all three Colleges, putting Edinburgh in as good a place as it can be for the months to come.
