It has been granted Eco-Schools Silver award status.

The accreditation is part of an international initiative that rewards nursery and school efforts to promote environmental action.

Reduce, recycle and reuse

The nursery actively encourages its staff and children to reduce consumption by reusing and recycling waste materials.

It also strives to teach children about self-sufficiency.

Projects include producing compost and growing vegetables to eat at snack time.

Learning about landfill

A trip to the Waste Aware Education Cabin at the City of Edinburgh Seafield Community Recycling Centre is planned for later in the month.

It will educate the children, staff and parents about the different ways to reduce landfill quantities.

About Uni-Tots

Uni-Tots is based within the University’s Psychology department in George Square.

For more than 38 years the nursery has supported teaching and research in the department.

It is open to all children aged between two and a half and five years.

At Uni-Tots we strive to ensure that children are encouraged to appreciate nature and how we can make the world a better place by reducing, reusing and recycling.
