The research space was made available by the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities.

It will be dedicated to the late Professor Timothy Sprigge.

Professor Sprigge was Chair of Logic and Metaphysics at the University from 1979-89.

Family donation

Professor Sprigge’s family has donated more than 1,400 books from the philosopher’s private collection to the room.

His papers, also donated by the Sprigge family, will be available in the University’s Main Library.

The Timothy Sprigge Room was created with funding from the Scots Philosophical Club and a Small Project Grant from the University.

Three-day conference

The room was formally opened at a conference hosted by the University in honour of the late professor.

The three-day conference was themed on Professor Sprigge’s research specialism, the metaphysics of consciousness.

More than 100 delegates from around the world attended the event to hear internationally renowned speakers on this topic.

At the event, Professor Sprigge’s widow, Giglia Sprigge, accepted a posthumous award on behalf of her husband from animal rights group Advocates for Animals.
