The University’s Principal, Professor Sir Timothy O’Shea congratulated the scholars at the event.

He also thanked funding sponsors and individual supporters for their contribution.

The reception was held at the Informatics Forum.

It was attended by more than 250 students, supporters and guests.

Competitive and prestigious

Scholarships at the University are awarded to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Students in receipt of this financial support are chosen for their outstanding academic performance.

Securing this funding is highly competitive.

For example, for every Edinburgh Global Master’s scholarship available there are 40 applicants.

Undergraduate bursaries

The University also offers a programme of bursaries.

An additional reception was held recently to welcome this year’s intake of undergraduate bursars.

This year, the University granted 175 new undergraduate bursaries, as well as 460 renewals.

In total, the University awarded undergraduate bursaries worth £775,000 for this academic session.

The number of undergraduate bursary applications also rose by 46 per cent.
