Lecturer’s trip screened

A University lecturer’s charity trip is to be the subject of a BBC documentary.

Kevin Macneill at the Danube

Kevin MacNeil, a creative writing lecturer cycled along the Danube in the autumn.

The purpose of the trip was to raise money for two cancer charities.

A gruelling journey

The published author cycled the full length of the river on a fixed-gear, single-speed bike.

To complete the 1,400km journey, he tackled distances of at least 100km most days.

So far he has raised around £3,000 for Cancer Research and Macmillan Cancer Support.

BBC Alba film

A small film crew accompanied Kevin on his journey.

The crew also captured footage of Kevin at work at the University.

The documentary will be shown on BBC Alba before the end of the year.

Kevin is also working on book about the trip called ‘Two Wheels on the Danube’.

A writer and teacher

Kevin teaches on the MSc Creative Writing programme.

He is a published playwright, novelist and poet and has published and contributed to several collections of poetry and prose.

He is also a graduate of the University.
