The Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA) will this month welcome more than 200 new students.

The new collaboration will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in architecture, landscape architecture and related programmes.

Combined strengths

The inauguration of ESALA is the culmination of a project that began in 2004 with funding from the Scottish Government.

The project’s aim was to create a leading UK architecture school by combining existing strengths from the two institutions.

The two former departments of architecture and landscape architecture submitted jointly to the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008.

Together, the two departments were ranked as second in the UK for research.

The inauguration of ESALA is an exciting moment for the staff and students associated with the project. It is the result of a lot of work and dedication from many people. Given the project’s ambitions we know that many in the creative industries will take an interest in the coming years.
