New post for climate change

The University has appointed Professor Martin Siegert as its new Assistant Principal for Energy and Climate Change.

In his new role, Professor Siegert will lead in the University’s plans to establish a research centre dedicated to climate change and carbon reduction solutions.

Investigation, innovation

The multidisciplinary centre will be a focus for world-leading teaching and research.

It is being developed in collaboration with Heriot-Watt University.

The venture seeks to be a sustainable forum for learning, investigation and innovation, linking the academic community with industry, law, finance and government.

It will be housed in a new purpose-designed building, located at High School Yards.

Antarctica research continues

Professor Siegert will remain as Head of the School of GeoSciences.

His research commitments will also continue.

Professor Siegert is collaborating with American, Australian and Chinese colleagues on airborne surveying of subglacial mountains in Antarctica.

He also leads a UK-wide consortium which is exploring subglacial Lake Ellsworth, also in Antarctica.
